Ele's Place donor and Support Group Volunteer 2016-present

Ele’s Place is a nonprofit, community based organization dedicated to creating awareness of and support for grieving children and their families. Through peer support group programs, Ele’s Place helps children to cope with the death of a parent, sibling or other loved one. Before coming to Ele’s Place, many grieving children feel alone and keep their feelings inside, not wanting to burden their parents or other family members. Often, friends don’t seem to understand if they haven’t had a similar experience. But each week at Ele’s Place, hundreds of grieving children and a warm and welcoming place to meet new friends who really understand how they feel, and begin to heal after the death of a loved one.

MAP is a private nonprofit agency located in southeast Michigan that has been creating opportunities for Veterans, people with disabilities, mental illness, addictions, and homelessness since 1985. MAP provides housing, job placement, and financial management for these at-risk individuals. Each year MAP assists close to 1,100 vulnerable individuals.

Ozone House donor 2016-present

Homelessness for youth means more than the absence of a safe place to sleep, enough food to eat or shelter from the cold. Homelessness means a lack of safe, stable, reciprocal relationships and vulnerability to dangers such as physical assault, sexual assault, or human trafficking. Homeless youth are often invisible. In Washtenaw County, we don’t see many youth sleeping on sidewalks, but we know there are over 2.5 million homeless youth in America and approximately 1300 in Washtenaw County each year. These resilient youth often move from one relative – without the resources to really help them – to another. They couch surf: sleeping on friends’ couches until they outstay their welcome, only to live on another friend’s couch for a short time, never acquiring the resources they need to nd stability. Tragically, many endure trauma or exploita- tion in exchange for a place to sleep. Up to 40% of youth who are homeless identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Questioning. These youth are at higher risk than their peers for bullying, violence, exploitation, and discrimination. Ozone House is available 24/7 to help youth get out and stay out of these situations. At Ozone House, youth and safety and non-judgmental support from adults and peers. Whether youth need shelter, housing, individual or family counseling, 1:1 support and life skills, a job, to enroll in school, or a hot meal, our door is always open.

Education Project for Homeless Youth in Washtenaw County donor 2016-present

The Education Project, formerly the Education Project for Homeless Youth (EPHY), is a joint project of the Washtenaw Intermediate School District and Ozone House that works to ensure students experiencing homelessness and temporary living situations enroll, regularly attend, and succeed in school. During the 2015-2016 school year, they served over 1,200 students in Washtenaw County, ages 0-21, from the nine school districts and ten public school academies in the county. Every school district in Washtenaw County works with students in temporary living conditions. The Education Project works closely with all of the shelters in Washtenaw County, but also serves families living in motels or staying with friends and family due to loss of housing. They also work with students in temporary foster care placements.

OUR HISTORY: Adult Learning Systems-Lower Michigan Inc (ALS- LM) is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides residential services for persons with disabilities. We have been providing services in the community for over 29 years in Southeastern Michigan.

Office Captain, Reinhart Realtors Polar Plunge Team for Special Olympics of MIchigan 2016-present

Michigan will hold 25 Polar Plunges in 2017. Polar Plunges are a Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) event. LETR is one of the largest grassroots fundraisers for Special Olympics globally. LETR consists of officers from both Law Enforcement and Corrections who raise funds and create awareness for SOMI year round. By participating in this Polar Plunge you are helping to raise funds for nearly 23,000 athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan. Special Olympics Michigan is a year round program offering sports for those with intellectual disabilities. Although sports are the "vehicle," the ultimate goal of Special Olympics is to help persons with intellectual disabilities participate and receive respect as members of their communities.
